Dear Colleagues at the Nuclear-Free Future Award,

permit me to express my gratitude for the year 2004 Nuclear-Free Future Award. There is no other foundation that I know of that champions this precise goal, and both the recognition from you and the funds are of the greatest value to me in pursuing my work to achieve it. In the coming year, I plan to write a short book taking stock of the nuclear story in the new era that opened on September 11, and I plan to devote the funds you have given me to travel and research for this purpose. The book's theme will be that nuclear proliferation cannot be stopped until the nuclear powers embrace a nuclear-free future for themselves as well.

Let me add that the award ceremony itself in Jaipur, India, as well as the visit you organized to the Tilonia Barefoot College were deeply important and enriching for me. I look forward to my continued association with the Foundation.

Yours Sincerely,
Jonathan Schell
